The Proposal

Well, I don't know about you, but it seems that the one question that every woman has for me now that I'm engaged is about the proposal. How did it happen? Where did he propose? What was your reaction? I can bet that you have asked that question to someone you know who's engaged, too. No matter how many times its asked, you never get tired of telling it!

My boyfriend Chris proposed to me on March 15th, 2010. That day I will reminisce about until I can tell the story to my grandchildren, or maybe even longer! It started out with a day at work from hell. I was having the worst day of my life. My workload was piled so high on my desk and everyone around me annoyed me. The phone was ringing off the hook, emails would not stop coming in, and I just could not catch a break to take a breath. Chris texted me around lunch time that day and asked how my day was going. Boy, when I got that text, I didnt know where to start first with that response. I simply told him that I was having a bad day. His response was "Try to get out early, so I can make the rest of your day go smoother and your night even better". Of course I couldn't leave early that day because I had way too much to do, so I left at my normal time (5:00pm) and drove home. When I got home, there was a candle lit dinner waiting for me on the table, which consisted of my favorite meal in the whole wide world: filet mignon with a gorgonzola cream sauce, garlic sautee'd green beens and fresh warm bakery bread. YUM! Chris is an awesome cook, might I add. I pulled out my chair to sit down at the table and there sat a small boxed wrapped in silver wrapping paper with a little white bow. I asked what the gift was for, and Chris replied "Just a little something to make you smile because you have had a bad day".

We ate dinner and I stared at that present in the corner of my eye the whole time wondering what was in that little wrapped up box? My first though was that it was a nice new pair of earrings, since I had lost my favorite pair a few days prior. Then my mind started to wander and I started thinking maybe it was a ring? Is he going to pop the question tonight? But the box isn't shaped as a perfect square, like ring boxes are supposed to be? We had been talking about getting married quite a bit over the weeks and even went ring shopping once. The suspense was killing me! I unwrapped the box and started getting very nervous. My palms were sweating and I started to get trembling hands. I opened up that box, and there layed a beautiful diamond..necklace. I looked up at Chris and he had the biggest smile on his face. He asked "what do you think of it"? At that point, I was a little bummed it wasnt a ring. Well ok, alot bummed, but I absolutely loved it! I walked into our living room to look at it in the big mirror and turned the light on to see it shine. I put it around my neck and stared at it for a moment. I didnt want Chris to get a sense that I was bummed, so I shouted out "I LOVE IT" and looked over at Chris in the dining room, but he wasnt there? I walked back into the dining room to see where he went, and when I walked around the corner, there he was hiding around the corner. He took my hand, got down on one knee and pulled out another perfectly squared box. My eyes welled up with tears automatically before he even said one word to me. At that point my mind was racing. He took my hand and said "Kate, today you had a bad day and I am here to make that day better. Not only do I want to make today better, but I want to make every day better for you for the rest of your life. Will you marry me"? He opened up that box and there it was. The most stunning princess cut diamond ring I had ever seen! He put it on my finger, wrapped his arms around me and squeezed me so tight telling me how much I mean to him and how much he loves me. Of course I said YES!

That night I must have text, called and emailed everyone in my phonebook to tell them the news! We went out to our favorite place "Friday's" to grab a happy hour cocktail and celebrate. The bartenders bought us drinks and everyone congratulated us on our engagement. It felt great to get all that attention! It's a night that will never be forgotten. A night that was so perfect, so meaningful and so romantic. Not only did I get proposed to, but I also got gorgous diamond necklace out of that night, too! I'm so lucky! : )
